Meet artist Sirmano - what's the inspo for this cup design?
I am always inspired by the environment where I live, the colours, the shapes that we see in the real world and adapted to a scene where my characters live. This piece takes you on a journey through a colourful wonderland.
Q & A with the artist
Can you tell us a bit about your typical creative process?
I love exploring different cultural elements and wears from around the world; the colours and shapes that come from those mixed with the environment I am in play a big part in my creative process. I usually start with just an idea, and then I layer and layer and add more layers of paint. Usually, I am not sure what the end piece will be, but that is what I love most about creating.
Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you ended up doing what you do?
I have always painted, like every child, I guess, and through school and uni, I studied fine art and illustration. My style has continually evolved over time, and I am so lucky to be able to still create into my adult life and do this every day.
What's been a highlight of your career so far?
Oh, that is a tricky question, as I love many of the projects I have worked on thus far. But I would say painting in street art festivals, for various reasons. The energy is contagious; being around creatives from different corners of the world with different styles who share the same highs and lows for a couple of weeks is pretty magical.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to any aspiring creatives?
The best advice I could give is to stay true to your vibe and style and be patient and try not to get bogged down with trends. Surround yourself with like-minded creatives, and then the road will be a pretty enjoyable one. Oh, and art supplies will kill your savings, just a side note.
